What is ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH is a civil action initiated by
dozens of civil associations working in Macedonia. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH is a
response of these individuals to the situation in which we are all put during
the last several years. It does not have a national feature and no political
party is backing it. The civil concept of living with all its duties and
responsibilities is our interest. Our strategy is to achieve a social and
economic progress of the community, without the participation of the government.
We have initiated this action. That is all we could do, at the same time
believing that every citizen should do everything in his or her power to make
his or her living surrounding better. Therefore, if enough is enough, begin by
putting a fullstop.
This whole idea started from a single question that we
posed to ourselves at the beginning of the so-called security crisis in
Macedonia, noticing the weakness of the citizens. The questions "What frightens
us most in these days?" was posed to many Macedonian citizens through the free
telephone lines, in Macedonian and Albanian language, in order to hear the
citizens’ voice. The answers that we received did not refer only to
the security crisis, but also to the political, economic, and social conditions
that all endanger human existence. The citizens, Macedonians, Albanians, Roma,
Turks, Serbs and the Vlachs all fear of relatively same things. It presented the
way how citizens perceive the situation and made us gather and talk about our
mutual problems and about our power to mutually contribute to resolve them. The
meeting which gathered more than one hundred associations of citizens was held
in Ohrid. We also received an answer to the question WHAT FRIGHTENS ME MOST?,
but we also heard different ideas, suggestions and initiatives that forced us to
again mutually undertake something.
We started the project believing that the vast majority of
the citizens, regardless of their national origin, feel that enough is enough.
Therefore, we have decided to present those answers to the public and to create
a symbol that will enable us to be clearer in our intentions. We chose a
nationally neutral symbol because we only cared about the citizen. It had to be
easily recognizable and applicable and will carry the main message saying that
the citizens have had it. Their voice for putting an end to this situation and
creating a new beginning was all around us. Between the end and the beginning we
have found our fullstop. Then we added ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, as an echo to that
voice. That was our main goal – to make that voice be heard.
We do not know where this will lead us, but we are certain
that as human beings we deserve better because we know hot to live and how to
make things better. Hence, begin by putting a fullstop and saying: enough is
enough.
